Meaning-centred counselling for living
A thoughtful place to talk about change, loss, uncertainty, difficult decisions and what matters now.
My counselling practice is grounded in Viktor Frankl's Logotherapy. Explore Logotherapy →
This approach respects the reality of your circumstances while helping you recognise the choices, values, and possibilities available to you.
Sessions are in person in Mount Waverley, Melbourne, Australia, and online.
COUNSELLING
A place to consider what life is asking of you
You may know exactly what has brought you to counselling.
Or you may know only that something has shifted, a decision is weighing on you, or the way you have been living no longer feels sustainable or meaningful.
You may be navigating a new stage of life, questioning the direction you are taking, adjusting to an unexpected change or trying to understand what matters to you now.
Counselling gives you time to speak without having to hold back, reassure or perform for anyone else.
My role is not to tell you what your life should mean. It is to listen closely, ask thoughtful questions and help you consider your circumstances more clearly.
Together, we can explore what has happened, what matters to you, and the best next response.
BEGINNING COUNSELLING
Showing up is enough to begin
You may have a clear reason for seeking counselling, or simply a sense that something within needs your attention.
You do not need to know how to tell the whole story before making contact. The first session is a time to begin with what feels most important now, consider what you hope may become clearer, and to decide whether working together is right for you.
ABOUT RAY
A counsellor who begins by listening
I’m Ray Daniels.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent much of my working life in education as a teacher and school principal, and I completed a PhD (UNSW) in educational change.
That experience developed my interest in how people respond to change, uncertainty and new possibilities, and how our values influence the directions and decisions we choose.
I completed a Diploma of Counselling and have continued with specialist study in the principles and practices of Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy.
For me, good counselling begins with undivided attention.
I bring curiosity, steadiness and respect to the counselling room. You will not be hurried into an answer, reduced to a label or told what should matter to you.
Together, we will consider your situation as a whole: what has happened, what cannot be ignored, and what you value.

COUNSELLING
A place to consider what life is asking of you
Counselling offers time to speak openly, think carefully and give your full attention to something that may have become difficult to carry alone.
You may be facing a clear concern, weighing an important decision or simply sensing that part of your life needs closer consideration.
My role is not to tell you what your life should mean. It is to listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and help you explore what matters to you and what are realistic goals for change.
LOGOTHERAPY
A counselling approach centred on meaning
Logotherapy was developed by Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist Viktor Frankl.
It begins with the understanding that while we are shaped by our histories, relationships and circumstances, we are neither defined nor determined by them.
Even within real limitations, there is always freedom to choose a response, take a position or direct ourselves towards someone or something that matters.
Logotherapy does not offer a universal formula for a meaningful life. It does not tell you what your purpose should be or ask you to find something positive in every experience.
Instead, it helps you look carefully at your particular situation and consider:
What can still be changed?
What must presently be accepted?
What matters most here?
What response is genuinely yours to make?
Meaning may be found through contribution, creativity, conscience, relationships, experiences, responsibilities or the position we take towards circumstances that cannot be altered.
The question is not always, “What is the meaning of my life?”
Sometimes the more helpful question is, “What is life asking of me now?”
THIRD CHAIR COUNSELLING
I also offer counselling for family carers through Third Chair Counselling
Third Chair Counselling is a separate counselling service I founded specifically for people caring for someone living with dementia.
It supports partners, adult children, relatives and friends as they navigate the emotional, relational and practical realities of caring.
The name comes from the idea of a third chair in the counselling room, representing the person living with dementia. While the carer’s experience and needs receive full attention, the third chair reminds us that the dignity, needs, and personhood of the person receiving care remain central to the work.
Ray Daniels Counselling offers Logotherapy counselling for people of different ages and across a broad range of life concerns. Third Chair Counselling is the dedicated place for counselling and support related to dementia care.
When you are ready, we can begin with a conversation.
Counselling can be a place to hear your own life more clearly, recognise what matters now and consider the changes that are yours to make.
You are welcome to contact me with a question or to enquire about a counselling session.
Counselling grounded in meaning, choice and possibility.
Let’s make space for what matters now.
